Microsoft loses demand and must pay 512 million dollars to Alcatel

To deal with the multiple demands between Microsoft and Alcatel is not an easy task, but today we can rid of one of the patents pending, as the U.S. judge Marilyn Huff has taken into consideration the demand of 367 million dollars filed against Microsoft and has estimated that the latter should total 512 million dollars (330.39 million euros to change) for infringing a patent encoding video.
As expected, Redmond will appeal against the verdict, which we assume that we will have more news on the matter. At this point Would it not have been cheaper for everyone to agree crossfire between various licenses for use between the two?
