Following the success of the launch of GeoEye-1 satellite from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California early September, has made Google Earth the satellite image receiver with the highest color resolution in the commercial market.

How can that be ? GeoEye-1 will capture earth images digitally from 423 miles distance, while moving with a speed of 4.5 miles per second. Now, the satellite is able to capture all images with a resolution of 5.5 feet for color, and 16-inch black and white. Still, according to current government regulations, GeoEye is only allowed to show a picture resolution of 1.64 feet to the public. According to Reuters, although the satellite pictures also provide the same to the Google competitors like Yahoo!, Google will become the only customers of GeoEye online service that provides online search-mapping (via the online map search).
