OPERA MINI Tips and Tricks

Posted by Mick 23 November, 2008 (0) Comment

Opera Mini comes equipped with various great features including Opera Link, Virtual mouse and security features. However some settings are still appealing to customize. For example, if you want to save the bandwidth, just go to the menu Menu> Tools> Settings, and then removed the check mark in front of the Load images option. Conversely, if you want to display images with high quality, you can change the settings into High Quality Image.

If you use a low resolution display, give a checkmark on Full screen mode option, so that various accessories and the taskbar will be removed and the web page will be displayed in a full screen mode. To reduce power consumption and save the battery life, you can also remove the animation effects that appear with each menu by removing check mark on Visual effects option.

The last tips, try to open a web site with a complex view such as nytimes.com or cnn.com on Opera Mini. The Page will not directly appear in a legible font size, instead the page will appear in overview mode that reflect the entire site. Then you can zoom by using the cursor.

Now, if you want to directly access the web page without having to go to overview mode, you can go to the Menu> Tools> Settings and remove the check mark on the Show Overview option.

And don’t forget to save your work. Happy browsing…

Hack YouTube to get HD video playback

Posted by Marsha 22 November, 2008 (0) Comment
YoutubeHD

YoutubeHD

YouTube has long been anticipated to release high definition video playback, and they’re now starting to test out real HD quality videos, The new format could be a big jump for YouTube, as the video size is similar to H.264 encoded mp4 files in the iTunes Store which size is over 80MB.

The new playback looks clean and professional in the widescreen format (1280×720) and seems like real HD 720p video. Formerly YouTube’s high quality video maximum resolution was at 480×360, to do so, viewers must add “&fmt=18″ to the end of a YouTube video’s url. Now to watch the 720p video format the trick is similar to that, simply by adding “&fmt=22″ to the end of the video URL

Currently there’s no view full screen option to YouTube embed technology for HD videos, but you can toggle it on from the Google service’s hosted video page. While these videos will result in slower loading and will trigger problems getting the clip to display on older hardware, it requires powerful PCs for smooth playback.

Here’s examples of an HD embed video on YouTube from wired:

and here’s the standard video playback
