Microsoft’s efforts to present Games For Windows Live service, which promised an Xbox Live like online experience with unified friend lists ,voice chat, cross-platform play between PC and console, is about to shrug off its chief criticism: cost. Microsoft officially announced today that it is ending the XBL-style tiered pricing structure – which put Gold membership at $49.99 a year of – and making the service free for all users.

The change is effective right away, affecting all recent GFW Live titles (such as Shadowrun and Halo 2) as well as upcoming releases. MS is also set to develop the service through a GFW Live Marketplace, due this fall. Like the XBL Marketplace, store will offer free and paid downloadable content, trailers, and demos

other than these announcements, MS is struggling to make the GFW Live interface more PC friendly together with reducing the technical requirements for developers.

microsoft alcatel

To deal with the multiple demands between Microsoft and Alcatel is not an easy task, but today we can rid of one of the patents pending, as the U.S. judge Marilyn Huff has taken into consideration the demand of 367 million dollars filed against Microsoft and has estimated that the latter should total 512 million dollars (330.39 million euros to change) for infringing a patent encoding video.

As expected, Redmond will appeal against the verdict, which we assume that we will have more news on the matter. At this point Would it not have been cheaper for everyone to agree crossfire between various licenses for use between the two?
